"I'm only me. That is all I can be."
Here are a few traits that define who I am. Some might be potentially more relevant than others, but I take them with me as I endeavour to learn, discover, grow, and make a difference.
----------
I am a thinker. Perhaps too much and too logically, and often my thoughts don't make it out of my head and into words spoken or on a page. But I am always questioning or trying to reason and analyze things in my head.
I am curious. I like to discover and teach myself new things, and am content to seek out answers on my own and make my own observations.
I am perceptive. Throughout my life, I have been quite shy. I may not like to talk, but I am always listening and observing, keenly aware of what is going on around me and absorbing it all in like a sponge. I have an acute sense of intuition about other people and situations.
I am a hopeful realist. While being very practical and logical, I have faith that the right things will come to the right people and that things will always work out in the end. Still, the road to get there may not be easy. I may have just made this term up (a hopeful realist), as it seems a bit contradictory itself, though I often find that I am many contradictions within myself - I find it hard to describe myself as fitting into any one category or having one characteristic; for almost every way I try to define myself, I find an exception.
I am conscientious. I am extremely hard-working, meticulously organized, a slight perfectionist, driven, and I like to succeed in everything I do.
I am artistic. I especially enjoy drawing and singing, but also painting, photography, playing clarinet, piano and, my newest instrument, the ukulele, and I enjoy theatre performances (particularly musicals). As I do not entirely enjoy sharing my feelings, I guess you could say that art, in its variety of forms, is my outlet for when I want to get lost in my thoughts or express myself.
I love to travel. Everything from the plane or car ride to visiting famous places or seeing beautiful sites and scenery I can't see at home or experiencing a new culture or language or realizing in awe just how big and wonderful and different the world is. Maybe I am just trying to beat my dad's country count (he has travelled to close to 40 countries), or maybe you could say I was born to travel (I was born in Fredericton 6 weeks early while my parents were on vacation and was on a plane for the first time when I was 8 days old), but I have always had a travel bug in me.
I am fascinated by people. I like being around people. I like people-watching and simply observing habits, expressions and reactions. I like seeing other people happy. I like when I can help or make other people happy, and often put the needs of others ahead of my own. I find different cultures, people, and languages wonderfully interesting.
I laugh a lot.
I enjoy life. "Life is a journey, not a destination." (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
